According to Gujrat election survey 2017, the BJP is conjectured to continue to stay in power but might fail to achieve its 150 seat target mark. The Congress is expected to come second in the election race with 68 seats. But that does not seem to unnerve the party, which is fighting the elections in full swing. The Congress is out with its manifesto, promising big on some burning issues the poll-bound state is facing. Here are the top 10 pointers from the party’s manifesto.
The Congress agrees to provide reservation to the Patel community under a special category, if voted to power. The party also assure that the quota for the SC and ST will not be affected by this.
Alleviation for Farmers
The party promises to waive off the farmer loan, a pertinent issue which has been pretty much untouched by the ruling party BJP. Rahul Gandhi too during his various rallies echoed the same sentiment towards the issue. The manifesto also promises to provide at least 16 hours of electricity
Price Dip for Petrol and Diesel
A reduction in state taxes on petrol and diesel by Rs 10/litre is mentioned in the manifesto. Also, distribution of Kerosene via PDS is also stated.
Remunerative MSP
The memorandum is also filled with hopes of getting remunerative MSP for the farm produce.
Youth Uplifting
Keeping in mind the high rate of unemployment in Gujarat, the Congress has also promised to provide a monthly allowance for the unemployed youth. The manifesto has set it to Rs 3000 for pass-outs of Class XII, Rs 3500 for graduates and a total of Rs 4500 to postgraduates. The party also provides support for small traders. An exemption from GST is also on cards for the entrepreneurs.
Improvement in Job Scene
The memorandum states a fixed salary structure and filling of all the vacant government jobs. A stop on job outsourcing is also mentioned. Self-employed individuals also have a reason to be happy as a 5 years moratorium in GIDC is also asserted.
Better Education Facilities
The party has promised to provide all the school and college students with free smartphones and laptops.
End on Contractual Jobs
The Congress declares withdrawal of contractual jobs in its manifesto. All the people on contractual would see their job turning permanent. And all the contract-based scenario will be eliminated entirely from the government jobs.
Advancement in Women Safety
A system of fast-track courts is expressed to enhance women’s safety level. Around 24 operational toll-free helpline numbers will be in effect too.
Elevation of Women Status in Society
Subsidized houses are promised for any woman who is not in possession of any house. The party also claims to free the education for girls. In addition, nutritious food and supplements will be provided to the women.
The Congress is closer in the contest to BJP than ever before and with huge promises like these, it remains to be seen if the party can take the throne away from BJP in Gujarat polls.
