Big gains for BJP in UP, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, SAD falls in Punjab
The long awaited Exit polls are out and they would be tested on March 11 when the actual results are declared. In the past the Exit polls have been rather unreliable; sometimes they predict rather accurately and on other occasions they are way off the mark.
Exit Polls were announced on March 9 at 5.30 PM for five assembly elections held in the Month of February and March. The election commission had earlier deferred the telecast of Exit polls in the wake of death of a candidate in Alapur constituency of UP. The election in Alapur was conducted on March 9 and the results were declared after the voting came to an end in Alapur.
Most of the exit polls have predicted hung assemblies in UP; BJP to be the single largest party in UP, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa and suggested that it would be rout of Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP alliance in Punjab and there would be a neck and neck fight between the congress and the Aam Aadmi Party.
According to India Today-Axis My India the congress would get 62-71 seats and form the government in the 117-member assembly of Punjab while the Aam Aadmi Party would get 42-51 seats. The exit poll predicts complete rout of SAD-BJP in Punjab. The similar result is predicted by Aaj Tak-Cicero which gives Congress: 62-71, and AAP between 42-51 seats in Punjab. C-Voter-India TV poll however says that AAP will win a majority in Punjab.
The News 24-Chanakya has predicted that BJP would be the winner and comfortably form the government with 53 seats in the house of 71 in Uttarakhand. The congress would get only 15 seats in the hill state.
The C-Voter-India TV predicts that BJP would win 25-31 seats in the house of 60 in Manipur while Congress will win on 17-23. The C-Voter-India TV exit poll prediction for Goa is that it would be marginal win by BJP+ as it would secure 15-21 seats with Congress coming close second with 12-18 seats in the 40-member house. The importance of AAP with 0-4 seats cannot be ruled out here in case of a hung assembly. How far the result of the Exit polls would come true would only be clear on march 11 when actual results are announced.
